A new version of GWT Ext is available.  It now supports GWT 1.5.2 :

In light of ExtJS going GPL, I'd like to provide an update to GWT-Ext users on the future direction of the project. While many users would like to see GWT-Ext continue to provide an LGPL stack with Ext 2.0.2, a few others felt that GWT-Ext should just go ahead and support the GPL versions of ExtJS.

Unless you were stuck in a cave this past week, you know about the emergence of Ext GWT and the entire Ext JS GPL licensing debate. We had GWT-Ext’s Sanjiv Jivan weigh in, followed by Ext JS creator Jack Slocum’s heated response. While the whole soap opera is somewhat fascinating, I’m more interested in how these new developments will affect the GWT community’s two most popular widget libraries.

Jack is very verbose, but what about Darrell ? Can he explain us why he kills the MyGWT web site. I think that it will not help us to trust the future of EXT GWT. It will be wise to restore it.

Last Friday, I completed the release candidate of a commercial RIA product using GWT-Ext 2 and a JSON backend. GWT and Ext are two libraries that I kept reading about in blogs, but initially resisted using. I didn’t think GWT puts enough emphasis on aesthetic appearance out of the box, and I was not thrilled about the Ext license switch from Apache to LGPL.

The latest build now includes much more advanced GWT-Ext support including a GWT-Ext palette that will appear when GWT-Ext has been added to your project classpath and inherited into yoru module.
Note that this support is considered to be in beta and will likely evolve in the future. Currently supported components include:

I just put up a new GWT demo inspired by Jonathan Coulton’s appearance on the TWiT 133 podcast last week. I was going to write something up on how to use the gwt-voices library, but it is actually so simple to use, that there is really nothing new for me to explain. The only thing that was missing which I wanted to add, was a way to pause the songs. Currently the only options right now are play and stop.

The widgets I used are from the GWT-Ext widget library. Sanjiv has really done a nice job with the new 2.0 release.

GWT Ext 2.0 was the buzz of this week. And because in opensource, the success is always correlated with visibility, I think that with this new version, GWT Ext is on the road for success.
