<p>I'm amazed that ZK tries all that with such an inferior product... I saw<br/>their blog post on the JavaLobby and started responding with laughter at their<br/>ridiculous claims but decided it would just derive to a flamewar.<br /><br/>ZK is yet another XML based language which you can't debug or test in any<br/>reasonable way, there are dozens of such solutions in the market and I am not<br/>impressed in the least. Picking GWT which is so much superior to it is just<br/>silly.</p>

<p>I remember that thead on JavaLobby too, and recall being perplexed by why<br/>they chose GWT as the target in their PR campaign, given how many other<br/>xml-heavy frameworks there are out their to measure themselves against.</p><br/><p>They must perceive GWT as the 'top dog' in the fight.</p>

<p>In my current project (Healthcare system) we've been decided to use GWT as<br/>core technology.<br /><br/>We have started in a common way but the project was big and the time spended to<br/>update UI look&feel was also big.<br /><br/>For this reason we've developed an XML-based framework that produces a GWT<br/>based UI: the result is great because we've founded the flexibility of an XML<br/>language and the benefits of GWT because generated objects are exposed and<br/>controlled by GWT application, you can extend generated UI with a "coded" UI<br/>and the time spended to generate an interface throught an XML file is<br/>ridiculous but more impressive rather the standard approach.</p>

<p>I think that one of the missing feature of GWT is a way to built the UI<br/>using a markup. But this drawback is not enough strong to make me forgot all<br/>the feature I like of GWT. Moreover, it's likely that a markup to generate UI<br/>will be available in the future.</p>

<p>Sure, the folks from ZK did understand very well that GWT is ZK killer!</p><br/><p>I have compared both GWT and ZK before choosing GWT. ZK was my second<br/>choice.</p><br/><p>Two main issues have emerged comparing ZK and GWT : ZK is still<br/>server-centric while GWT is client-centric. For performance, it's a big big<br/>advantage for GWT. I also have big concerns with the ZK license. GPL over more<br/>friendly Apache 2.</p><br/><p>The only concern could be about security because client-centric exposed more<br/>surface to attacks by definition, but not all of us are working for bank.</p><br/><p>I found ZK as a pretty interesting tool. It has the advantage over GWT of<br/>XML GUI building. It could be handy in many situations.</p><br/><p>I know that there is such initiative in the GWT Incubator (Declarative UI<br/>Construction in GWT - <a href="http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit-incubator/wiki/DeclarativeUi" title="http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit-incubator/wiki/DeclarativeUi">http://code.google.com/p/google-web...</a>)<br/>but I dont know the real status of this project.</p><br/><p>ZK's folks should rather put their efforts and money in developing XML tools<br/>for GWT.</p>
