Google Web Toolkit a new way to create good Ajax applications

image Bruce Johnson, Project Lead of The Google Web Toolkit (GWT) talks to IndicThreads about the GWT framework, it's capabilities, the team mission and more. He talks about how GWT helps developers build high-end Ajax applications using Java and without worrying about the cross-browser quirks.

Google Web Toolkit isn't just another way to create mediocre Ajax applications

Interview of Bruce Johnson, co-creator of GWT

Recently, Google released from beta its Google Web Toolkit. Google Web Toolkit (GWT) is an open source Java software development framework that makes writing AJAX applications like Google Maps and Gmail easy for developers who don't speak browser quirks as a second language. Phil and Scott talk to Bruce Johnson, one if its co-creators.

GWT lets you avoid many of these headaches while offering your users the same dynamic, standards-compliant experience. You write your front end in the Java programming language, and the GWT compiler converts your Java classes to browser-compliant JavaScript and HTML. Bruce talks about how he got involved with the project. He states that while he has always been in development, he believes that the user interface is tremendously important.

Bruce also gives a number of examples of projects that took advantage of GWT. While the discussion is often technical in nature, Bruce is able to clearly define what GWT can do for developers.

We liked TurboAjax so much…we bought the company

Chris Keene

Why Dojo? Well, we are targeting the enterprise, where internationalization and security are critical. We believe Dojo is creating the best UI toolkit for enterprise developers.

I'm not sure that Dojo is the best toolkit for enterprise developers ;-)

GWT and IE's Memory leak

Joel Webber

When I saw this article, I nearly spilled tea all over the keyboard. They really fixed this issue? You mean I can untangle all the painful code in GWT that works around this issue, diligently cleaning up all its circular DOM references under all sorts of circumstances?

On vacation

I'm on vacation. Two weeks!
No Internet connection, no mobile phone, no calls from customers, no cars, no subway, no Paris, just my beloved and my children.
No coding, no pair-programing, no stand-up meeting, no planning games, just cooking, sleeping, reading literature, swimming in lake, walking in forest, building wood hut,...
I will be in my grand-pa farm.
